Quido Reni trained first under Flemish painter Denys Calvaert at his studio he met Francesco Albani and Domenichino. In 1594-1598, he studied at the Carracci Academy under Lodovico and Agostino Carracci. From 1601, he resided also in Rome where he realised many important frescos at churches and palaces. He also worked in Naples, Loreto, Ravenna, Mantua, and Modena. As a renowned painter he returned to his native Bologna in 1614 and settled there. His ideas were influenced by Classical statuary sculpture, Raphael and Parmigianino. He specialised in religious compositions and subjects from Classical mythology. His elegant and graceful style was highly appreciated by his contemporaries.
